An island interpretation at Boškinac, the Flora and Fauna distinction at Monte, Marina’s seafood focus and Krug’s counter are different propositions. Ask what the menu is trying to show you. A plant-focused menu, for example, should be checked for eggs and dairy rather than assumed vegan; a catch-led seafood experience should not be booked on the assumption that fish can simply be replaced.
Compare the full cost and the full time
Course counts do not tell you about aperitifs, wine, water, supplements, deposits or cancellation terms. Request the complete information before confirming. Ask how the menu length relates to the seating time, especially at a small counter. A shorter menu enjoyed without watching the clock can be a better choice than the most extensive option followed by a rushed journey home.
The tables in this story
Novalja · Pag
Boškinac
The Grande and Petite tasting menus interpret Pag; the estate’s own wines sit alongside other Croatian labels. The fine-dining restaurant and the tavern are separate experiences.
Rovinj
Monte
Flora gives plants their own menu; Fauna takes another path through Rovinj’s ingredients. The stone courtyard belongs to the family house near St Euphemia’s church.
Novigrad
Marina
Marina Gaši builds seafood tastings above Novigrad’s harbour. The published guide describes four- and eight-course options; the very small terrace is a specific request, not a default seat.
Split
Krug
Karlo Kaleb’s intimate restaurant seats twelve around an L-shaped counter. Menu lengths are linked to sittings: this is a close-up kitchen experience, not a conventional private table.
